2 SHORT VIDEOS:
We arrived at Gran Canyon National Park in the evening and went to find a site at the campground. To our surprise, there were only a few spots left!
In the morning we went to get a Backcountry Permit to be able to go hiking into the Gran Canyon for a few days. We could only get the last permit available: From Descending from Hermit's Rest and hiking through the Hermit's Creek, then by the Hermit's Rapids and towards Boucher Trail, then ascending near the Dripping Springs and back to the entrance at Hermit's Rest.
We had to start hiking with our crampons (the trails were very icy and dangerous to descend without them.) At the bottom of the hills the snow had melted and the temperatures increased to zero cecius approx. It was a very long hike every day. 6-7hours walking up and down the trails were needed every day in order to reach the designated campgrounds (a flat area).
On the second day, we were told we would find some Springs, but we did not find them. We had to search for water for cooking and drinking around the wet rocks, and barely could fill in our 6l. MSR water bag fro a small pond to use on our last dinner and breakfast. Luckily we had enough and still had drops to treat the water.
The last day was the most difficult one, going up and up and up... Icy trails, climbing narrow paths etc. And the last "more touristy part" full of steps to reach the Hermit rest parking lot.

We stopped at Sedona to visit the Red Rock State Park near Flagstaff. The kids did the whole Ranger Program and became junior rangers of the park.
We ended up camping in a Campground next to a famous Steakhouse Restaurant Saloon: Blackbarts, where we celebrated our New Year's eve. The food was amazingly good. The decoration and the Musical Revue was worth it. A live pianist and the wait-staff performed and sang many western and Broadway songs fantastically.
